What Are Dental Implant Restorations?
Implant restorations are custom-made substitutes for natural teeth. They can replace one tooth or many and they can remain to be fixed in place or removed by the patient. But unlike conventional replacement teeth, which must rest on the gum or be attached to other teeth, these replacements are supported by dental implants, which anchor them to the bone, much as roots anchor natural teeth.
The Procedure
The prosthodontist will guide a team of specialists in the precise placement of your dental implants, the making and fitting of your implant teeth and final placement, ensuring that your restoration achieves the right look, fit and bite.
Step I: Placement of Dental Implants
This is generally an office procedure when your implants are set into the bone. Over several months, the implants and bone fuse to form a bond that may be as strong as the teeth replaced. During this period, you can usually wear temporary teeth and eat a normal diet.
Step II: Fabricating the Replacement Teeth
Your prosthodontist will make impressions for models of your replacement teeth. An exact set of specifications will be provided to direct a dental technician in developing a precise size, shape color, arrangement and bite for your mouth.
Step III: The Fitting
The new teeth are now ready. The prosthodontist confirms, with great care, that the right adaptation, position and bite have been achieved to make your implant teeth seem your very own.
